What is Vacuum Truck?

A vacuum truck is a tank-mounted truck that uses a powerful blower to suction liquids, sludge, slurry, or dry material into an onboard tank for transport and disposal, with or without high-pressure water cutting.

A vacuum truck removes material by air suction, pulling it through a hose into a sealed debris tank. General industrial vacuum trucks handle liquids and sludge such as tank cleanouts, spill recovery, and sump and catch basin cleaning, while hydro excavation vacuum trucks add a high-pressure water system to cut soil for digging.

What is the difference between a liquid vacuum truck and a hydrovac truck?+

A liquid vacuum truck is built to suck up and haul liquids and sludge, such as from tanks, sumps, and spill sites, and usually has no water cutting system. A hydrovac truck adds high-pressure water, a boom, and a digging wand so it can excavate soil. If the job is removing fluids, a liquid vacuum truck is the usual fit. If it involves digging near utilities, a hydrovac is the right tool.

What permits or licenses might be needed to haul waste in a vacuum truck?+

It depends on what is being hauled. Transporting hazardous materials or hazardous waste can trigger federal DOT and EPA rules, and many states and cities require permits or registrations for haulers of septic waste, grease, or industrial liquids. Disposal facilities also set their own acceptance rules. Before renting, identify the material, confirm the rental company's unit and driver are qualified to carry it, and arrange where it will be disposed of.

How does a blower vacuum truck differ from a liquid ring vacuum truck?+

Blower trucks use a positive displacement blower that combines strong airflow with vacuum lift, and they are common for dry bulk material, industrial debris, and hydro excavation. Liquid ring pump trucks produce deep vacuum, can run continuously, and tolerate wet, vapor-laden air, so they are often used for industrial cleaning of sludge and heavy liquids over long hose runs. Describe the material, distance, and lift when requesting a rental so the company can recommend a suitable unit.
